Summer Search started in 1990 in San Francisco and has expanded to serve students in North San Francisco Bay and Silicon Valley, Boston, New York, Seattle and Philadelphia. In the past five years, the organization has more than doubled the students served as a result of a successful national growth campaign. Today, the organization is in the early stages of implementing a five-year strategic growth plan to further advance Summer Search as a force in the youth development and college success fields.

Position:

In support of its ambitious growth plans, Summer Search is seeking a savvy and driven Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications to join its team. Reporting to the National Director of Marketing and Communications, this hire will develop and implement Summer Search’s digital media strategy and presence. Leveraging new brand positioning and strategy, this position will raise the organization’s profile and reputation, and increase engagement with its network of students, alumni, foundations, corporations, individual donors, board members, staff, corporations, and thought leaders in the youth development and college success space. The Senior Manager will serve the marketing needs of Summer Search’s entire network, ensuring strong marketing presence and brand consistency across the national and seven regional sites. Additionally, this hire will support the conception and production of print materials for use by the entire network. The right marketing professional will relish the challenge to roll up their sleeves and lead digital media efforts that advance Summer Search’s brand recognition and reputation. Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and track the success of a comprehensive digital media strategy to advance Summer Search’s brand and credibility, broaden awareness of its programs and priorities, and increase engagement with its key target audiences.
  • Own the content development of all digital communications, including the website, blog, and newsletter, and social media channels like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
  • Oversee the redesign of the Summer Search website, managing an external vendor and ensuring that the new site adheres to brand messaging and guidelines.
  • Partner closely with Director of Marketing and Communications to develop national and site-specific marketing and publicity plans.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for communications requests from the seven regional sites, creating and providing document templates and other tools to support site-specific fundraising and outreach efforts.
  • In collaboration with the Design Associate, manage the strategy, production, and delivery of all printed materials, including event materials, annual reports, and toolkits.
  • Support the repurposing of internal data and materials (e.g. evaluations, program results, presentations) into creative visual formats for broader consumption.
  • Monitor current events, trends, influencers and conversations to anticipate opportunities for senior leadership to engage in broader public dialogue; partner with freelance writer to research and draft blog posts on behalf of senior management.
  • Track and analyze data for efficacy of digital communications activities, creating reports to measurement across all digital media platforms.

Qualifications:

Key Selection Criteria:
  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing creative communications strategies, including significant experience managing social media outreach, with organizations reputed for strong digital brand presence and marketing capability.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects while driving toward deadlines.
  • Strong internal customer service orientation, with the ability to develop supportive relationships and serve the communications needs of a geographically distributed workforce.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically while executing tactically in order to communicate and engage audiences through a variety of channels.
  • Hands-on self-starter with a get-it-done spirit and upbeat personality.
  • Flexible and adaptive work style, with the ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, results-oriented, and hands-on environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a mission-driven environment with a strong culture; passionate commitment to Summer Search’s mission, vision, values, and strategic direction.
  • Broad understanding of and willingness to stay abreast of digital media best practices, trends, and tools.
  • Familiarity with web design and analytics; experience in Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters in a related field is a plus.
