The Senior Facilities Engineer – Project/Process position is responsible for providing Facilities Engineering and Project Management support for Capital Projects, Operations and Maintenance. Most SJVBU employees reside in Bakersfield and travel to the outlying field offices in vanpools or personal vehicle. |

This posting applies to both Senior Project Engineers and Senior Process Engineers. Chevron SJVBU has open positions in both categories.
Collaborate with plant and field operations, other Facilities Engineers, and Construction Representatives during scoping, design, and construction phases of field optimization opportunities.
Support SJV Surface Facility Optimization and Integrated Production System Optimization processes. These processes systematically optimize existing Chevron operated systems/equipment by defining, modeling, and analyzing the facilities and identifying and executing opportunities for a more profitable and energy efficient operation.
Provide Mentoring for multiple less experienced Facilities Engineers and Construction Representatives. Act as Business Unit Technical Advisor and Subject Matter Expert on areas of significant knowledge and experience.
Facilitate or participate on Lean Sigma projects.
Provide and complete facility designs, cost estimates, materials management processes and expenditure projections for assigned projects, including large capital projects and small optimization projects.
Develop cost and resource loaded schedules to effectively manage projects.
Provide machinery, instrument, electrical and stationary equipment reliability engineering support for the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of equipment and systems, for all phases of projects (concept development, scoping, equipment application, specification, selection, bid analysis, shop testing, field start up, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
Provide strong support and championing of Chevron Way, Operational Excellence, and Capital Stewardship behaviors.
Utilize Phased Gate Project Execution processes, Small Project System tools, Project Controls tools and Operational Excellence processes to complete projects and operational improvements safely, according to schedule, and on budget.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
Fifteen years minimum of applied engineering experience after completion of College degree.
Experience with project economic evaluation.
Proficiency of Phase Gate Project Management and Capital Stewardship processes.
Experience with resource loaded scheduling, earned value management and cost control processes.
Understanding of equipment and facilities design, construction, optimization and safety practices and requirements.
Knowledge of Industry Codes and Standards.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work to ensure milestones are met.
Ability to work effectively in cross functional (operations, management, engineering, financial) teams.
Knowledge and experience with processing equipment such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, piping networks, tanks, pressure vessels, and control valves.
Knowledge and experience of process control documents such as Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrument Diagrams, and Process Control Operating Philosophy.
Facilities design and construction experience in areas of oil, gas, water treatment and distribution systems is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Facilities design and construction experience in areas of thermal enhancement with steam in heavy oil fields is desirable.
