Mechanical Maintenance Supervisors AngloGold Ashanti (AGA)


AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents.   AGA employs over 62,000 people globally.  In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager.  Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%.  The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.
Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade.  The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project).  Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.
We are now seeking two experienced Mechanical Maintenance Supervisors to join our Maintenance team for the Tropicana Gold Mine.
Accountable to the Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent, these roles are accountable for coordinating maintenance resources to ensure scheduled work is carried out efficiency and maximising plant utilisation. The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisors will be active members of the Maintenance Team, contributing to the development of Maintenance Personnel and Maintenance Practices. These roles are initially Perth based moving to 8/6 FIFO rosters in 2013.
The main tasks of the roles include but are not limited to:
  • Ensure that all subordinate staff (including contractors) are supervised, trained and developed to their full potential in a manner consistent with the company's vision, philosophy and business objectives.
  • Work with scheduler to develop weekly work schedules and execute work schedules on a daily basis. 
  • Assist the Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent with budget management.
  • Assist with the production of period reports detailing scheduled versus actual maintenance activities and resource usage.
  • Assist in the development of mechanical engineering standards and work practices, which conform to corporate and legislative requirements and ensure that these are adhered to throughout the site.
  • To work with the maintenance team in a "hands on" capacity, that is carrying out mechanical maintenance work when called on to do so.
  • Generate work orders for planned as well as breakdown maintenance
  • Assist in the development and management of the maintenance planning systems.
  • To liaise closely with metallurgical and operational personnel on safety, plant performance and technical issues with the aim of optimising plant performance, increasing ease of operation and eliminating existing and potential hazards and problems.
  • Actively review systems and procedures regularly within your area to maximise effectiveness and efficiency within the Company.
  • Provide leadership and supervision for continual improvement of processes and procedures.
The ideal candidates will possess:
  • Trade qualifications with extensive industry experience.
  • Five years' experience in the maintenance of mineral processing or heavy industrial plants.
  • Experience in a supervisory role of a multi-faceted team of tradespeople.
  • Experience with maintenance planning/scheduling software.
  • A high degree of literacy is essential.
  • The person will require sound analytical, planning, implementation and supervision skills, combined with the ability to utilise knowledge gained.

  • Superior written and verbal skills
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
