Description
GENERAL FUNCTION
The Program Associate will provide administrative and programmatic support to Internews environmental and Asia programs, splitting his/her time between working for the Earth Journalism Network and working on other projects in the Asia portfolio.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Assist the EJN Executive Director, Program Coordinator and other personnel in managing media development projects in the environmental portfolio. This will include:
o Carrying out administrative, logistical and book-keeping duties, including preparing expense reports and making travel arrangements
o Supporting EJN activities where appropriate, including helping to organize a conference for EJN partners in California in the spring of 2013
o Assisting in the development of EJN’s online activities and presence
o Helping to update, manage and add to EJN’s interactive data journalism and news map of Climate Change in the United States
o Assisting with the management and administration of other EJN activities, as assigned
o Occasionally traveling to support EJN projects in the field
• Assist the Asia Program Management Unit with administrative and clerical duties. This will include:
o Preparing expense reports
o Updating Asia projects materials and reports
o Preparing/Assisting with the preparation of presentations
o Assisting with proposal development
o Assisting with logistical planning
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• 1-3 years development project experience, including field experience, OR a relevant advanced degree
• Proven organization and administrative skills, with strong attention to detail
• Experience with MS Excel and Word
• Experience making complex travel arrangements
• Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize with a shifting workload
• Proven ability to operate effectively in a multicultural environment
• Relevant university degree.
• Interest and strong background in climate and environmental issues
• Interest in working with online media and mapping tools
• Good communication, presentation and inter-personal skills
• Experience working in a multi-cultural, international setting
Preferred
• Experience with financial management and book-keeping
• Experience with event planning and/or arranging logistics for project implementation
• Familiarity with online mapping, visualization and/or web development tools
• Experience preparing expense reports and budgets
• Foreign language skills are a plus and should be mentioned on the application
• Video editing skills are a plus and should be mentioned on the application
