AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents. AGA employs over 62,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager. Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%. The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.
Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project). Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.
We are now seeking four Metallurgy Technicians to join our Processing team for the Tropicana Gold Mine in early 2013. These roles are based on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.
Accountable to the Metallurgy Superintendent, these roles are responsible for providing metallurgical technical support services to the Metallurgists and Production Coordinators as well as providing guidance to process technicians.
The main tasks of the roles include but are not limited to:
- Contribute to the development and review of the standard operating procedures that ensure maximum metallurgical and cost efficiency of the processing facilities with respect to plant throughput, gold recovery and consumable use
- Contribute to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of key process controls, operating systems, for the efficient and cost effective operation of the processing facilities
- Contribute to the development of techniques and procedures for the monitoring of key operational and metallurgical parameters
- Routine plant sampling for surveys and process improvement.
- Metallurgical laboratory test work including sizing, flotation Testwork and leaching.
- Plant optimization Testwork in crushing, milling, thickener and leach areas.
- Calibration of instruments such as PSI, thickener bed level probes, DO and pH meters;
- Carrying out gold room activities as approved by the superintendent metallurgy
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Previous experience as Plant Technician in Gold Processing plants
- Competence with computer software e.g. spreadsheets and word documents
- Experience with Windows based Operator Interface systems (CiTect or similar)
- Previous exposure in metallurgical testing procedures
- Supervisory experience in a gold plant or similar industry
- A working knowledge of PLC systems and instrumentation
- Current WA Drivers Licence
