Advance Family Planning (AFP) is an evidence-based advocacy initiative that aims to increase resources and political commitment for quality family planning programs, contributing to the achievement of the vision of the July 2012 London Summit on Family Planning. AFP is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates and David and Lucile Packard Foundations. A five-year extension and expansion of AFP has been funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. The AFP Consortium is led by The Bill and Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (Gates Institute). AFP’s goal is to improve access to and use of family planning services, information, and supplies by increasing funds, decreasing policy barriers, and increasing the importance of family planning among policymakers at global, regional, national, and sub-national levels.
