We seek applications from Cognitive Neuroscientists or Cognitive Psychologists for a post at professorial level, to be based in the Cognition and Communication Research Centre (CoCo) in the Department of Psychology. CoCo offers particular strengths in the study of language and perception, typical and atypical development and communication technologies. We are particularly interested in recruiting a senior academic with an international reputation who will lead the development of our cognitive neuroscience/psychology profile in one or more of these areas. The candidate should have a strong track record of research funding to support and diversify our research funding portfolio. CoCo already successfully attracts major research grants from the UK Research Councils and government bodies (e.g. ESRC, EPSRC, AHRC, NIHR), awards from industry (e.g., GlaxoSmithKline, Kellogs, NCR), and from charitable sources (e.g. Leverhulme Trust; Diabetes UK).
The Department of Psychology has a good reputation for research and teaching and offers a dynamic environment with highly qualified staff, renowned for their professional expertise. We have an established research reputation with 90% of research in Psychology found to be of international quality in the Research Assessment Exercise 2008. The Department offers an extensive portfolio of research and innovation in psychology, sport, biology, biomedical sciences, food science, nutrition, chemistry, and forensic science. The School has engaged in a recent remarkable period of growth embracing a £5 million refurbishment of bioscience and psychology laboratories and a state-of-the-art suite of sport science laboratories that form part of the new £30 million Sport Central City Campus investment.
