Production Metallurgist AngloGold Ashanti (AGA)


AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents.   AGA employs over 62,000 people globally.  In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager.  Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%.  The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.
Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade.  The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project).  Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.
We are now seeking two Production Metallurgists to join our Processing team for the Tropicana Gold Mine. These roles are initially Perth based moving to an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie in 2013.
Accountable to the Metallurgy Superintendent, these roles are responsible for executing the metallurgy strategy and consistently delivering production expectations in a sustainable manner.
The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Execute work in accordance with the ONE Management System so that all BPF requirements are met and compliance with ISO14001, OHSAS18001 and other Codes are maintained
  • Monitor processes and provide instruction to Mill operators to change operating parameters
  • Recommend improvements to existing work packages
  • Log changes to process parameters
  • Conduct metallurgy activities to achieve zero reportable environmental incidents, zero compliance breaches and no events requiring public disclosure
  • Monitor performance using control charts, results from geomet and lab test work and environmental data
  • Coordinate the collection of data and information and draft reports for the Metallurgy Work Group
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Recognised tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Process or Chemical Engineering
  • A minimum of 2 years professional experience within the mining industry in gold processing plants
  • A working knowledge of Process Control systems and instrumentation
  • WA C Class Drivers license is essential for this role
  • Competent in MS Office
  • Able to fulfil the requirements of the Deputy Radiation and Ventilation Officer
  • Cert 4 qualifications in training is highly desirable
