Vice President of Philanthropy


Refugees International (RI) is seeking a seasoned Vice President of Philanthropy (VP) to lead its fundraising efforts across the organization and develop strategies to increase the budget from $3.3 million to approximately $4.0 million over the next two years. S/he will engage senior leaders and staff across the entire organization, including program staff, to develop strategies that achieve maximum results. Working with the President and the Development Committee of the Board of Directors, the VP will set fundraising goals, develop a multi-year fundraising strategy, and execute a fundraising plan that enables RI to increase the impact of its lifesaving and important advocacy. In addition to guiding senior leaders and Board members through the fundraising process, the VP will be responsible for managing his/her own major donor portfolios.
The VP must have a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience, including substantial experience in philanthropy and at least five years of supervisory experience. S/he must acquire strong familiarity with RI’s mission, key stakeholders, and audiences. Experience raising money for advocacy organizations, especially international organizations, is preferred. The successful candidate will display a strategic, collaborative approach to philanthropy, with demonstrated success creating sustainable fundraising and other outreach programs. The VP must be skilled at forming consensus across departments so that development efforts align across the entire organization. This position reports directly to the President and supervises a fundraising staff of up to three.

The organization advocates for lifesaving assistance and protection for displaced people while promoting solutions to displacement and statelessness issues around the world. As an independent organization, RI does not accept any government or United Nations funding. With an operating budget of $3.5 million, the organization has reached a pivotal moment in its history.
