The Organisation
BG Trinidad & Tobago a major producing asset for BG Group, contributing some 27mmboe production per year with a strategic objective to increase this to 50mmboe per year by 2020. BG Group supplies gas to the domestic market and to Atlantic LNG with around two thirds of production being exported as LNG and the remainder going to the domestic market.
Position Summary
This is a Function Critical Role upon which delegation of Function responsibility and authority to the Asset relies. He/she ensures functional activities are conducted in a manner consistent with the Internal Controls Framework (BG Business Principles, Standards and Policies).

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the management of the multi-discipline engineering activities for this diverse portfolio of Capital Projects. The role of the Engineering Manager may include the direct management of engineering activity on a specific project or to provide support to the engineering managers assigned to individual projects. The Engineering Manager will provide an internal assurance and leadership role for project activity, this will include;
• Functional leadership on engineering for all BG TT Capital projects
• Providing engineering input to developments during the Assess and Select phases
• Ensuring smooth transition at commissioning to the Engineering Manager for BG TT Operations
• Striving to achieve functional excellence through the application of BG engineering standards
• Identifying and championing technology application opportunities
• Active involvement in the development and strengthening of the engineering function within BG

The Engineering Manager will be an active participant on the BG TT Capital Projects Leadership Team, establishing the overall strategy for engineering excellence in the delivery of capital projects. In addition the Engineering Manager will establish effective relationships with contractors, vendors and contractors to ensure compliance with BG engineering standards. This position will also involve the incumbent in directly engaging with in-house stakeholders and Partners to ensure that the engineering scope of work for each project is well defined, approved and effectively executed.
Key Accountabilities
As this position is a Function Critical Role, the job holder will have certain accountabilities agreed with their Head of Function and as set out in the Asset - Function Accountability Standard, which are expected to involve:

- Contributing to delivery of the Business Plan by carrying out the Functional/Asset scope of work in accordance with the BG Way and the Internal Control Framework. In particular, this will require identifying any compliance gaps to functional standards, developing plans to address them and seeking dispensations as required;

- Implementing the function strategy and improvement plans within the job holder's defined scope of work.

Accountable for Engineering Standards• Ensure appropriate development and independent verification of the engineering designs for the various projects in the project portfolio to satisfy the approved performance criteria and stakeholder requirements.
• Establish a list of standards for use in project activity based on the BG standards. Where deviations are proposed, apply for formal dispensation to the relevant BG Group Technical Authorities
• Ensure that the process of design documentation management is understood by project staff and contractor(s) including review and approval and subsequent storage of design documents. Regularly monitor its progress and effectiveness.
• Participate in the Management of Change process in terms of engineering reviews, changes and approvals.
• Capture, share and where possible incorporate Lessons Learned into Engineering standards and guidelines.

Accountable for Engineering Resources
• Confirm that suitable Contractor resources are available to deliver quality engineering deliverables in accordance with the agreed project schedules.
• Define the engineering organisation for BG TT Capital Projects, ensuring sufficient resources and considering the relationship between accountable and responsible parties within the engineering team in terms of design approval, principle points of contact within BG TT Capital Projects, the various contractors and the Engineering Asset Technical Authorities.
• Ensure that there is a proper balance between staff and contractor engineering resources in the Engineering roles with a healthy succession plan.
 
Accountable for Engineering Leadership• Demonstrate visible leadership and commitment to excellent HSSE performance.
• To establish the design process, including how technical safety will be designed-in, how design quality can be controlled, how design interfaces with other contractors and third parties will be managed, how constructability and maintainability can be incorporated, and how Lessons Learned and Best Practices will be incorporated.
• Ensure that the process safety in Design Standard is properly implemented
• Lead the development of design concepts during the definition of new projects.
• Ensure that all the project interfaces are identified and engineered, with particular emphasis to the connectivity with existing Brown Field services where appropriate.
• Ensure close-out of projects and completion of handover to Operations
• Ensure that suitable Peer Assists, Peer Reviews and Value Improving Workshops are planned, held, and actions followed through. Coordinate the planning for the Engineering Functional Reviews.
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience Needed: • Experience of managing engineering during the project life cycle from concept development through to execution, with specific experience in a Brownfield project environment.
• Experience in the application of regulations and industry codes and standards.
• Significant experience of leading teams.
• Offshore oil/gas production and associated facilities in a client/operator environment.
• Ability to interface across a wide range of disciplines including petroleum engineering, well engineering, operations, contracts/procurement, commercial and economics;
• Quality control of contractor technical work, ensuring appropriate techniques and standards are applied and opportunities for technical and business improvement realised.
• The ability to set the HSSE standards required and to lead by example to ensure that all aspects of the work are completed safely and in line with BG’s HSSE expectations.
• Technical professional with wide exposure to diverse technical and business environments.
• Verifiable record in the successful development and delivery of a number of complex hydrocarbon projects
• Competent to lead and motivate a large multi-disciplinary team and guide, mentor and inspire other team members.
• Skilled in the scope and application of required technical assurance processes
• Able to manage interfaces and work closely alongside project and operations teams during FEED, detailed design and construction.
• Able to advise and steer business/commercial aspects, and has a full understanding of strategic considerations.
• Able to manage activities with significant uncertainty of solution or outcome.
• Successful leadership of commercial negotiations with engineering contractors and/or partners.
• Experience of identifying project critical success factors and risks, and in developing and implementing plans to manage these.
Knowledge, Languages,Skills and Attributes• A relevant engineering degree and have Chartered status
• Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of business awareness, key project performance drivers, operational requirements, and of financial and commercial aspects of project delivery.
• A Proven record in the application of Company and functional assurance processes.
• Very effective leadership skills.
• A Proven record of having incorporated appropriate environmental consents into the design processes.
• Ability to manage and lead the interface with a wide range of disciplines including Operations, Commercial, Well Engineering, Sub Surface, Economics as well as the usual Project Engineering functions.
• An understanding of the operations and maintenance of facilities to ensure that the required input from Operations is properly addressed throughout the project lifecycle
• Strong and effective written and oral communication skills supported by interpersonal skills that allow working at a senior level within BG, with Contractors or other stakeholders.
• Ability to challenge others in a constructive manner and negotiate with internal peers and other stakeholder representatives to influence decisions or ways of working.
• Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining effective relationships and a clear focus on overall objectives.
• A Team player mindset with ability to interface with teams in different locations.
• Excellent presentation skills with ability to adapt style and content of presentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to manage own time and apply relevant time management techniques to ensure timely delivery of multiple work streams.
• A person who has the drive and vision to deliver Engineering for the projects in line with the commitments made at the time of sanction.
• Experience in implementing measures to achieve first class contractor safety performance.
• A self starter with a strong delivery focus and good problem solving and analytical skills.
• Commercially and financially aware, with business awareness, and able to apply these skills to realize asset improvement opportunities through project delivery.
• Strong contract management and negotiation skills.
• Excellent Planning and Organisation Skills.
• Fluent in English.
