The Organisation
BG Exploration is one of the major business divisions of BG Group, providing functional and technical excellence in Geoscience. BG Exploration supports subsurface work across all of our principal activities, by leveraging the skills within the Basin Analysis and Reservoir Analysis specialist teams.
Position Summary
The Clastic Sedimentologist provides a specialist technical excellence consultancy service in support of the worldwide E&P activities of BG Group. Ensures that all work meets customer requirements and is delivered in a timely and cost effective manner. Through a technology programme, he/she also monitors the development of new and evolving clastic sedimentology technologies and investigates their relevance to the assets, their applicability and implementation.
Key Accountabilities

Performs specialist clastic sedimentology functions including detailed core and facies descriptions, guidance on the selection and implementation of petrographical work programmes for integration into exploration and reservoir models, guidance in seismic interpretation and characterization of clastic systems; modelling of clastic reservoirs.

Champions clastic sedimentology and supports other specialists in developing a Discipline Strategy in response to BG Group's requirements for capability development, coaching, software and training.
 
Develops internal and external networks to enable sharing of best practice.
 
Transfers knowledge to principal activities and assets via internal publications, technical fora, asset presentations and peer assists.
 
Provides a focal point for problems specific to clastic sedimentology and advises or seeks external advice to resolve them.
 
Monitors the development of new and evolving technologies and investigates their relevance and applicability to assets.
 
Organizes and manages external contractors for provision of specialist services.
 
Maintains close links with specialist software vendors to ensure latest software developments are implemented.
 
Forges and maintains close links with industry experts, research institutes and university groups specializing in clastic sedimentology and ensures that BG Group keeps abreast of, and implements, best practices.
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Knowledge:Recognized for significant depth of expertise and demonstrable track record of delivery in clastic sedimentology, for all geological scales, across a wide variety of depositional environments and structural settings.
Proven record of influencing and disseminating new technologies across complex organizations.

Understands role and impact of the expertise and discipline within the wider business context – may have asset experience.

Skills and Experience:Either a clastic sedimentology PhD, specialist MSc or equivalent post-graduate qualification in geoscience, or sufficiently relevant industry experience is required.
 
The candidate should have a broad experience of clastic depositional systems, with recognised expertise in shallow marine and/or deep water systems. This should be married with proficiency in fundamental clastic sedimentological skills including; core description, outcrop characterization, wireline log and image log interpretation, petrology and diagenesis. Experience of ODM and WellCAD software are required, whilst experience of Petrel and Touchstone software are desirable but not essential.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to work effectively across different cultures.

Has the ability to engage, influence and energise a wide range of stakeholders on the business benefits of technology applications in own area of expertise.

Excellent presentation skills and clear and convincing report writing ability.

Proven skills in time and project management; able to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Must be effective operating in a matrix team structure.

An ability to interact with BG Group assets to customise projects at both the basin and reservoir scale is needed.

Ability to drive process improvements through sharing lessons learned and best practices.
