Disaster Response Officer Syria


Dorcas is a Christian relief and development organisation active in Eastern Europe and Africa. In these regions Dorcas works together with local partner organisations. Dorcas is committed to fulfil the command Jesus Christ gave to His followers to take care of the poor and oppressed (Mt.25.31-46), irrespective of their race, religion, gender or political conviction, by encouraging self reliance through development, providing social care and assisting in emergency situations.
To be able to execute disaster response projects we are looking for a:
Disaster Response Officer Syria
Employment: 1,0 FTE
A contract will be given for 6 to 9 months
To be stationed in Jordan, Libanon or Turkey
The disaster response officer works under the direct leadership of the international director and is part of the sustainable livelihoods cluster.
The disaster response officer will be responsible for:
  • Exploring possibilities to become involved in disaster response operations;
  • Monitoring of field implementation of disaster response projects by partners on site;
  • Coördination with relevant stakeholders such as representatives of the local government, relevant embassies, institutional donors;
  • Designing and implementing disaster response programmes;
  • Support and strengthen the capacity of local organisations to respond;
  • Logistical, financial, HR and administrative management of the project;
  • Writing of proposals, reports and communication material to donors and different stakeholders.
Job Requirements:
  • BSc or MA degree in a subject related to Development Aid;
  • Expert in disaster management and experience in IF(Institutional Funding);
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant field experience in relief operations;
  • Proactive attitude, flexible personality, strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Adherence to the mission and vision of Dorcas;
  • Active membership of a local church;
  • Fluent command of English and Dutch;
  • Ability to speak Arabic is a plus;  
  • Ability to travel and to work in a cross-cultural environment.
