Handa Foundation Volunteer Website Developer


The Handa Foundation is looking for an experienced Volunteer Website Developer to connect our efforts to improve health and education in Cambodia and Southeast Asia with an international audience.
The Handa Foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission to build hospitals and schools in Southeast Asia. Our largest project is The Handa Emergency Hospital (HEH) in Battambang, Cambodia. HEH is Cambodia’s premier trauma surgery center and has been the primary trauma and general surgery referral center in Northwest Cambodia for nearly 15 years.
The Handa Rehabilitation Center in Phnom Penh opened in January 2013. This center provides state of the art physical rehabilitation services, hosts the Cambodia Physical Therapy Association, and contributes to the physical therapy needs of people living in poverty.
Over the next several years, The Handa Foundation will continue to develop new health and education projects in the region.
About the Position
We are looking for a Volunteer Website Developer who will work closely with our team to develop new and improve existing websites for The Handa Foundation and our growing portfolio of projects. The Website Developer will be based at our offices at HEH in Battambang and will have the chance to be creative in designing and maintaining sites. Ideally, the volunteer will also provide database support at HEH.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your Web and IT skills to projects that improve and save the lives of disadvantaged communities in Southeast Asia.
Ideal Qualifications • B.S. in Computer/Science Engineering or any IT related field • At least 10 years’ experience as a Web Developer • Strong skills with PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and OOP • Experience with Open Source (Joomla, Wordpress, Typolight). • Demonstrated website design experience and skill with design programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Coral Draw (CS3, CS5), Flash, Dreamweaver • Demonstrated experience with Relational Database Management System • Good communication skills in English • Experience working in a developing country in a multicultural setting
About Battambang
Battambang, Cambodia is the 2nd largest city in Cambodia with a small town feel. There is a small river meandering through the town center, which has pleasant walking areas. There is no traffic or hassle getting around. Many use bicycles. There are a number of expatriate oriented restaurants and activities available. Phnom Penh is a 4.5 hour taxi ride away. Seam Reap with the amazing Angkor Wat temple complex is a 2 hour taxi ride away. The Thai border at Pailin is just over an hour away. If one follows basic rules of safety, there is minimal personal risk in Battambang. Many expatriates enjoy living and working in Battambang. We can help you sort out transportation, housing, and food logistics.
