The Organisation
QGC is a leading Australian coal seam gas explorer and producer focused on supplying cleaner hydrocarbon energy to growing domestic and international markets.

We are establishing Queensland Curtis LNG, a world-first project to turn reserves of natural coal seam gas in the Surat and Bowen basins in Queensland into liquefied natural gas (LNG) – a carbon efficient fuel.

QGC, which is wholly owned by the British energy company BG Group, employs more than 4,300 staff and contractors. 
Position Summary
The Electrical Engineer provides specialist Electrical Engineering support as part of the QGC Operations Engineering team.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring all physical plant and equipment is operated within the designed parameters and will be part of an engineering support team providing technical advice and support to production and maintenance teams. The incumbent is also required to develop scopes of work for brownfields modification projects and manage contractors to deliver assess/select phases of project lifecycle. In addition they are required to liaise with key stakeholders and keep abreast of the company’s infrastructure development activities ensuring an understanding of future engineering and operational requirements. 
Key Accountabilities
Position Specific• Establish and maintain plant and equipment design and maintenance procedures and confirm compliance.
• Act as the discipline Engineer for all electrical system related changes and provide discipline specific advice into QGC Management of Change process
• Ensure Plant Engineering compliance in QGC Operations (e.g., JV requirements, permits, legislative approvals)
• Development of specific procedures and operating practices and prepare dispensation requests against BG standards
• Participate in operations interfaces across projects and multi-disciplines during FEED, detailed design and construction
• Contribute to post-implementation reviews of infrastructure and facilities development
• Evaluate Electrical Engineering specifications for implementation by internal and external project staff
• Ensure Engineering design changes are communicated in a timely manner to commercial and field management
• Regularly meet with field personnel and review field operations and plant engineering activities.
• Monitor QGC and sub-contractor operations for compliance with governmental requirements and JV agreements
• Monitor and make recommendations on technology advances in QGC’s present operations and future developments regarding plant integrity
• Participate in production and maintenance engineering reviews and asset optimisation processes

People Management• The incumbent must adhere to the annual HR cycle and meet deadlines within the appropriate timeframes

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience• Experience in an Electrical Engineering role in a HV power transmission, distribution or island gas turbine generation environment
• High voltage (up to 132KV) operation and maintenance experience
• Experience with –
• Protection relay setting and secondary injection testing procedures.
• Substation automation and intelligent relays communication network commissioning.
• Backup protection relay and intelligent MCC parameter setting.
• Familiar with HV transformers, surge protection, revenue meter, CT, VT and switchgear sizing /commissioning.
• Generator operation, load sharing and shedding systems.
• Variable Speed Drive systems
• Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas
• Experience in use of Electrical Permit to Work (PTW) systems in an operations environment
• Commitment to, systems enhancement, asset management procedures & quality assurance
• Experience in producing high voltage safe operating procedures
• Experience of working within a controlled change management culture to ensure that any changes are fully assessed and approved
 
Knowledge, Languages, Skills and Attributes• Tertiary qualifications in Electrical (Power) Engineering and relevant experience in commissioning and maintenance of high voltage electrical systems.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Highly effective contractor liaison and negotiation skills
• Able to constructively challenge others and negotiate successfully with internal peers, partners and contractors to positively influence decisions and improve ways of working
• High level computing skills – Microsoft Office, PLC and control systems for plant and equipment
• Highly skilled in the application of functional assurance processes
• High level of analytical and problem solving skills
• Results orientated with a high level of initiative and capacity to exercise good judgment
• Knowledge of quantifying and assessing risk and developing risk mitigation strategies
• Strong time management skills
• Ability to focus on the key operational issues and prioritise accordingly
Special Features
• This role is based in Brisbane with some domestic travel required to site
