OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The Communications (COM) Group forms an integral part of the Director's Office and is responsible for the presentation of a homogeneous image of all aspects of IARC work to the scientific community, the media, and the general public.
Description of duties:
Under the supervision of IARC's Communications Group Head, the work includes developing, planning and executing media and public relation products, tools and services to inform general and specialized publics about IARC programs, activities and accomplishments by:

- implementing IARC's media strategy in support of the COM strategy,

- generating regular corporate public relations and communication products including information for events, information for electronic media, and hard media,

- suggesting approaches for disseminating coherent, organization-wide and rapid responses and statements on Agency positions,

- creating and posting content for podcasts, press releases, webinars or social media networking platforms - working in close collaboration with the Institutional Webmaster,

- assists in developing contacts and relationships with media representatives,

- facilitating the dissemination of agency and program information through the mass media, e.g. by writing press releases, organizing events including press conferences, open days and press tours, and designing global campaigns to enable the public to better understand IARC's role,

- monitoring, analyzing and reporting on coverage of IARC in the media and its impact,

- ensuring the dissemination of the EXPOsOMICS project findings through: engaging European stakeholders via regular updates and dissemination results; using a variety of modern communications tools (web-based, social media, etc.); participating in key meetings of EXPOSOMICS partners.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Journalism degree from a recognized University.

Desirable: Formal training in communications, media relations or public relations.

Under the direct supervision of the RA/HMS and general supervision of Director Health Systems and Services Development, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:

7. Support Member States in developing sentinel reporting systems for adverse events in hospitals that enhance early detection, introduce a non-punitive and non-blame culture; and support corrective measures to minimize such events in future;

8. Develop a network of regional quality and patient safety experts that can contribute to raising the importance of the subject on the regional and national health policy agenda, guide the development of tools and instruments, assist nationals in implementing quality and safety programs;

9. Support Member States in developing/strengthening national accreditation systems for heath care, strengthening the clinical governance approach or by doing both and strengthen capacities in the ministries of health or independent accreditation programs.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
Objective of the Division of Information, Evidence, Research and Innovation

The objective of the Information, Evidence, Research and Innovation (DIR) is to facilitate intelligence production as a corporate function at the service of the Organization. DIR provides Member States and EURO staff with reliable health intelligence derived from health information, knowledge and evidence on topics, which are of interest both for Member States and the Organization. The DIR manages the programmatic knowledge about information and intelligence in the WHO/Europe office, including databases, knowledge and evidence platforms in order to position WHO/Europe as a leading reference in the field. It coordinates the health information and health system information both at WHO/Europe level with all relevant Units and with WHO Country Offices and collaborates closely with national and international partners. DIR facilitates this function through databases, publications, professional networks, research and evidence services and knowledge and evidence platforms. This includes also the translation, publication and dissemination of information by various means. The DIR has links with the Country Work Help Desk in order to facilitate the flow of information from and to countries. It closely links information, knowledge and evidence to the field of health research.

Purpose of the post

To provide technical support to the Division of Information, Evidence, Research and Innovation (DIR) of the WHO Regional Office for Europe for developing and maintaining its health information platform and data warehouse, including all technical databases and corresponding online user interfaces and web applications to meet requirements for efficient use and dissemination of health information. The post aims to strengthen the capacity of the Monitoring, Surveillance and Databases (DIR/MSD) team for developing and improving their health information systems; information collection, management and sharing; integrating evidence into the WHO management process; and, promoting the application of appropriate health information technology.

Description of duties:
WHO/Europe's set of 10 databases are its main repository of health statistics. This key resource provides authoritative health data on the 53 countries in the WHO European Region. This enables comparative analyses of the health situation and trends in the Region, and surveillance of disease and monitoring of trends in policy areas, including key determinants of health (such as alcohol, tobacco and nutrition). The incumbent will be involved, among others, in the following duties:

1. Responsible for administering, maintaining and updating DIR-MSD database (SQL Server), Web and application (Windows Server) servers;

2. Responsible for maintaining and improving MSD's application development environment, including versioning and collaborative technologies (Subversion);

3. Focal point for technical collaboration between the ICT department and DIR-MSD technical databases and health information framework;

4. Work closely with stakeholders and clients (may confer with technical officers on a one-on-one basis) when developing, maintaining or updating database applications for specific health topics;

5. Develop new and update existing web-based data entry forms for communicable diseases surveillance (CISID) and other health data collection campaigns;

8. Assist in the design, conceptualization and implementation of an integrated health information platform;

9. Develop functions and write source code for improved reporting and graphical presentation capacities of the data warehouse content;

10. Document source-code, architecture and model of existing and newly developed applications, services, databases and procedures;

Key objectives of the expanded programme on immunization include the polio eradication to rid the world of the scourge of polio so that no one will be disabled or killed by this vaccine preventable disease; and prevention, control and elimination of other targeted vaccine preventable diseases, such as measles/rubella and invasive bacterial diseases. As a part of these efforts, a well functioning and quality laboratory service is essential to the process of certifying eradication of polio from the world and in supporting countries for vaccine preventable disease surveillance.
Description of duties:
Under the broad guidance of the Director, Department of Family Health and Research and direct supervision of the Coordinator, Immunization and Vaccine Development and in close collaboration with Virologist, the incumbent will carry out the following duties:
1. To provide specific technical assistance to the regional polio, measles/rubella and other viral laboratory network/sentinel sites
2. To support developing laboratory surveillance capacity for vaccine preventable diseases for which new vaccines are available or will soon be available

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The ITT department is based in the General Management Cluster (GMG) of the World Health Organization (WHO). Its main objective is to provide high-quality and cost-effective Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services which assist WHO in achieving its mission of health for all.

The services provided by ITT to staff, located both in HQ, regions, and countries, have increased significantly. These services are delivered through different suppliers or (service providers) that are located anywhere in the world. Description of duties:
The Billing and Service Management Assistant will perform day-to-day transactions on billing, procurement, and finance functions for the ITT department's ICT services. Work will also include frequent interactions with finance and/or administrative personnel at Headquarters, Global Service Centre, Regions, Country/Field Officers, and Service Providers.
