The Research Investigations and Monitoring Unit (RIMU) is Auckland Council's social, economic, environmental and land-use research centre. We provide high-quality evidence that assists policy development, implementation and evaluation.

This role is particularly focused on working on developing, implementing and overseeing primary and secondary research on issues relating to the economy. The Senior Research Economists are the Auckland Council's technical specialists but can also apply their research skills across other areas. As a Research Programme Leader, you will get involved in diverse and interesting projects, therefore, no day will be the same! You will be responsible for collecting, analysing and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data using statistical analysis and modeling, scenario development and forecasting within the local government economic setting, as well as monitoring national and international trends, events and Government policy developments. You will distribute and promote reports, articles, technical publications and research papers for wide ranging Auckland Council research projects.

Proven capability in report writing to a political audience as well as the ability to explain and present complex issues will be a regular component of this role. High levels of communication and relationship skills coupled with the ability to work unsupervised with a strong time management discipline is essential. You will be comfortable presenting to key senior stakeholders and able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of economic models and econometric research techniques. Database management and working with large and complex datasets will form part of your decision-making toolset.

Key pre-requisites are as follows:

• Post-graduate qualification in Economics or related discipline (including finance, public policy or economic geography). Masters essential.
• At least five years' experience in research, evaluation and monitoring within Economics discipline
• Experience in designing and managing research projects
• Able to translate policy direction and stakeholder requirements into researcher work
• Demonstrated experience in utilising a range of research methods
• Experience using economic models and econometric software
• Evidence of publishing and conferencing
• Experience in working effectively on collaborative research projects

FINCA International is currently looking for Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) for its subsidiaries in Eurasia, based in one of the countries of operation in the region. The CFO is directly responsible for managing all finance and accounting activities of a FINCA subsidiary, and supervises its entire financial staff. S/he will ensure that the finance activities will support the FINCA subsidiary in pursuing its mission with a minimum of risk and a maximum of efficiency. As a member of the Management Team, s/he shares responsibility for the overall performance and activities of the FINCA subsidiary, and participates in making decisions on material issues.

Ideal profile:

- Degree in Accounting with CPA/ACCA or Chartered Accountancy equivalent required, Master’s Degree is preferred,

- Minimum experience of 5 years,

- International experience desirable, exposure working in the region an asset,

- Extensive experience in best-practice financial management of a company, desirably a bank or other regulated financial institution, experience working for the big 4 audit firms an asset,

- Financial analysis-long/med/short term financial planning,

- Experience working with US GAAP or IFRS, knowledge of local statutory accounting standards a plus,

- Demonstrated abilities in budget preparation and management, and general ledger management,

- Treasury management,

- Thorough understanding of operational risk of a financial institution,

- Proficient in MS Office suite, good understanding of IT issues and the role and possibilities of IT in financial management, familiarity with implementing and working with complex integrated management information and accounting systems (including database management),

- Fluency in English and Russian required.

Economist – Jakarta, Indonesia

Economist – Jakarta, Indonesia – AusAID funded Poverty Reduction Support Facility (PRSF)

PRSF is a joint facility between AusAID and the Government of Indonesia to improve the quality of policy advice for poverty programs in Indonesia.

The Poverty Economist will coordinate the activities of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Research Team within the UPSPK unit. He/she is responsible for providing technical assistance to inform the future development of the unified database and improve the effectiveness of its use by social protection programs.

To succeed in this role, you will have demonstrated:

• Minimum 5-7 years experience relevant to economic development/poverty/social protection and a record of research/published work; .
• Experience in analyzing large-scale and longitudinal household survey datasets;
• Experience in conducting research and applying econometric methods relevant to poverty measurement and analysis;
• Excellent knowledge of econometrics, statistical analysis and programming principles and techniques;
• Proficiency with standard econometric software packages (STATA);
• Ability to present economic/statistical information in user-friendly formats.
