Ten scholarships of £5,000 each, funded by Santander Group, are available for taught Masters study at Essex for 2013-14. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, to students who would not otherwise be able to take up a place at Essex. Otra Cosa Network (OCN) is a Peruvian non-profit NGO and UK Registered Charity (No.1133680) that offers a wide variety of affordable and satisfying volunteering opportunities to well-motivated volunteers from around the world.
OCN needs a new Operations Manager to run the organization’s operations in Peru, under direction from the UK-based Directors. We are in search of an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about international volunteering and community development. The new Manager needs to take on a wide range of responsibilities and manage the small local team in line with the organisation’s values, strategic goals and approach to community development.
Responsibilities include managing all aspects of looking after our volunteers from recruitment & selection, making pre-arrival arrangements, greeting and inductions on arrival, ensuring the welfare of all volunteers from arrival to departure, offering general/emergency assistance, monitoring and analysing volunteer feedback to support continuous improvement. Other aspects of the role include project management – liaising with our project partners; overseeing our volunteer house; liaising with accommodation partners; developing, managing and monitoring our own OCN projects; fundraising; on-line marketing activities and some administration tasks such as simple book-keeping and management information reports.

You will work under the guidance of the UK Directors and work with our project partner organizations, ensuring our volunteers are happy & well looked after and are working effectively to achieve results at our partner projects. You will also have the ability to build partnerships with local government and private sector projects, identifying opportunities to leverage resources to develop OCN’s scale & impact.
The successful candidate will be a good communicator, effective manager, and a sound administra-tor who can pro actively find solutions to challenging tasks in a multi-cultural environment, working with local partners in Peru and volunteers from around the world. You will be able to demonstrate good decision making and analytical skills, be naturally good at working with people, be a sound administrator, and understand culture and society in Peru and the International Volunteer Community. Experience of working with multi-partner projects would be an advantage, along with proven management and leadership experience. A degree or post-graduate qualification is essential. A qualification in an international development-related subject would be an advantage.

Purpose:
Under general supervision by the Regional Director, the incumbent will:

Qualification:
• Advanced university degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Government, Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Policy, Social Development, Community Development, or other relevant disciplines.
• Ten years of relevant professional work experience.  Experience in programme/ projects management and building strategic alliances and partnerships/resource mobilization.
• International and Developing country work experience and field work experience. 
• Background/familiarity with Emergency.
• Rights-based and Results-based approach and programming in UNICEF.
• Integration and synthesis of various programme activities in accordance with professional practices and UNICEF programme policy, procedures and guidelines.
• Expert knowledge of advanced concepts in primary discipline, with a broad knowledge of related disciplines, in-depth knowledge of relevant organizational policies and procedures.
• Building strategic alliances and partnerships/Resource mobilization: leverages the larger resources of national governments and other development partners.
• Fluency in English and Spanish required.

• Proven experience in management positions with strong policy, programming and advocacy record.

Summary:

The main goal of this programme is to equip children and young people with relevant soft skills (communication, language, interpersonal); life skills (decision making, critical thinking, problem solving, creative thinking); basic (English and Maths) and technical skills. Intended to increase economic opportunities, technical skills training targets young people aged 14 to 25 and responds to the labour market demand in order to guarantee internship opportunities, business start ups and/ or job placements.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the International Partnerships Manager, the Vocational Training and Career Guidance Programme Coordinator will be expected to carry out the following tasks:
Identify (through participatory techniques) the needs/requirements for vocational training and career guidance for beneficiaries of LAFF’s partner organisations.
In collaboration with our partners and through participatory techniques, identify suitable trainees.
In collaboration with our partners, develop budgets, plan and implement life and technical skills training programmes.
In collaboration with our partners, develop budgets, plan and implement the LAFF career guidance programme. Identify training providers (institutions, training centres, businesses and/or experts) and establish MoU’s or agreements when possible. Identify internship, short work experience and job placement opportunities for young people. Network and forge links with other stakeholders and organisations (including local government, donors, companies and other supporters) to ensure continued support for existing and new initiatives. Continue to develop a data base of training providers and other private/public sectors partners or potential partners. Monitor and evaluate the results and impact of the vocational training and career guidance programme and submit progress reports.
Requirements: Undergraduate Degree in International Relations, International Development, Education or related field. Post graduate degree desirable but not essential. Minimum of 1 year of volunteering and/or work experience. Field and/or international development experience, as well as experience implementing vocational training programmes desirable. Budget development, administrative skills and financial management experience preferred. Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish and English required. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Highly organized, flexible, independent, culturally sensitive and detail oriented and ability to multitask. Excellent time management skills. Solid report-writing skills.

Requirements:

Summary:
In order to reduce dependency and to move towards sustainability, LAFF supports activities which generate income for our partners, reduce their dependency on external funding and in some cases provide training and job placement opportunities for at risk young people. The Social Entrepreneurship / income generation programme is build around a participatory approach. The main strategy is to provide technical support directly or indirectly through LAFF’s volunteers, the IPM and/or training institutions. LAFF also raise funds to cover the start up costs of social entrepreneurship projects/ income generating activities. The aim of the programme, however, is to design a self-sustainable business model, so that the business no longer requires financial assistance from LAFF or other sources.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the International Partnerships Manager, the Social Entrepreneurship Programme Coordinator will be expected to carry out the following tasks:

Identify (through participatory techniques) methods to implement, sustain and grow social enterprises/ income generation schemes.
