Academic Sustainability Coordinator - College Of Charleston


Welcome to the Office of Sustainability at the College of Charleston. We represent the hub for teaching, research, and practice of sustainability on campus and in the greater Charleston community. Organizationally, The Office of Sustainability is located within Business Affairs, which gives it a high profile on campus and in the community, where it can be accessed by and have influence on all members of our campus community. This represents an exciting step forward for the College of Charleston, and signals a new chapter in our esteemed history. Position Overview:

The Office of Sustainability (Division of Business Affairs) at the College of Charleston seeks to hire an Academic Coordinator. This is a unique "hybrid" position that provides significant opportunities for both personal and professional growth in shaping campus and societal sustainability.

Responsibilities:

This non-tenure track position will involve:

In-classroom and online teaching.
Engaging in scholarly research.
Conducting faculty/staff workshops.
Assisting with the internship program and campus projects, targeted operational management of campus sustainability, regional sustainable development coordination and grant-writing.
The position requires teaching 3 courses per year.

Qualifications:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand (or by the time of employment in Summer 2013), experience in higher education teaching, and some track record of scholarly research.
The candidate should be capable of and interested in contributing to all 3 dimensions in building their professional and academic record.
We also have a team-based approach to learning, working and interacting; so, the workload to the diverse duties (above) will be shared-to the extent possible; therefore, the candidate should be comfortable working as part of a collaborative team.
A candidate with a foundation in sustainability from ANY discipline is encouraged to apply.
Those general disciplinary areas that will be given preference are urban/regional studies or planning, geography, political science, sociology, business-especially entrepreneurship and management, environmental science/studies, engineering, policy/administration, architecture/design, and sustainability science.
Preference will be given to broad, interdisciplinary training and diverse methodological skills.
Experience with campus sustainability, administration, and/or community outreach is beneficial, especially work or research completed in core sustainability areas such a food/agriculture, waste, transportation, energy, built environment, development, public health or human well-being.
