The University of Waterloo invites nominations and applications for Director of the Conrad Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology Centre, with the appointment to be effective July 2013 or soon thereafter.

Waterloo Engineering is a multi-faceted engineering school with eight academic units and over 6,800 undergraduate students in 13 programs which follow the co-operative education model. As the largest undergraduate engineering school in Canada and one of the best, Waterloo Engineering has over 34,000 alumni and attracted over $65 million in external research funding last year. Accountable for all aspects of the Conrad Centre’s strategy and development, the Director will implement his/her vision of entrepreneurial education, research and community involvement to lead the Conrad Centre through a period of growth in faculty and programming and to new levels of excellence in all its endeavors. He/she will increase resources, external profile and recognition, and engage with faculty, staff, students, alumni, employers and professional bodies. With a strong personal belief in the importance of entrepreneurship and commercialization as a foundation for redefining and improving Canadian business, coupled with strong business and industry connections, the Director will champion the continued evolution of the Centre.
Success as Conrad’s Director requires dynamic leadership, sound management skills, and the ability to build, nurture and sustain relationships with all stakeholders both within the university and the wider community. The ideal candidate possesses an earned doctorate, leadership and management experience in a university context, and a track record of excellent teaching and academic research. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, an open and collegial style, a creative and consensus-seeking approach to problem solving, and the ability to inspire and mentor faculty and staff are all important qualities. Those without extensive academic experience but with otherwise appropriate expertise and a track record of outstanding entrepreneurial leadership will be considered.
