Fixed Term Contract until 31 December 2014

Salary £24,828 to £28,266. 

Would you like to be part of an exciting and dynamic reference team? Reference Services at The British Library at looking for a Science Specialist to join our team of subject specialists, delivering a customer focussed service to on-site and remote users and facilitating access to the Library’s amazing collections.

You will assist and support readers in their research in the Science Reading Rooms. You will also contribute to aspects of the Reference Services programme as required through one-to-one training and the delivery of reader workshops.

The following competencies will need to be demonstrated. 

•             Experience of the effective delivery of reference services
•             In depth knowledge of science information sources
•             An ability to understand the information needs of researchers
•             Awareness of the impact of social media and digital publishing and the changing information landscape
•             Good communication and presentation skills, verbal and written
•             Good organisational skills, ability to effectively manage workload and prioritise competing tasks

It would be desirable for the following competencies to be demonstrated.

•             Experience of delivering training either in a workshop or one-to-one environment
•             An understanding of copyright issues

This is a full-time post working 36 hours per week (excluding lunch breaks). The post holder will be required to work one evening a week and one Saturday in four as part of their working week.
