The position works closely with the pastoral industry and other stakeholders to implement strategic weed management programs in the Barkly District. It is not, however, a “weed spraying job”. The major roles are to provide extension services to land managers through advice on weed planning and management, to develop and coordinate weed management programs, and to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
Weed Management is the responsibility of the landholder and this position provides assistance to land managers to coordinate weed management activities throughout the region. Community engagement is a large part of this role and cooperation and collaboration are key elements of all weed management programs.
The successful applicant will on occasion be required to directly carry out weed control of emergency incursions. Other important duties include the collection of scientific research data and survey and monitoring of weed infestations. The duties may include the supervision of subordinate or volunteer staff.
