Post-graduate qualifications or accreditations in a relevant science field (such as groundwater, water quality, catchment management, hydrology, geology, ecology, environmental science, natural resource management) and/or senior experience in leadership role researching or managing surface water hydrology, hydrogeology and the potential impacts on water resources from activities such as coal seam gas extraction and coal mining.
The Science Advisor role is a strategic leadership position within the Office of Water Science. The successful applicant will play a key role in supporting the Independent Expert Scientific Committee’s advice on coal seam gas and large coal mining projects, including overseeing and quality assuring assessments of projects that assist the committee’s deliberations as well as advising on the communication of the committee’s advice on projects. The Science Advisor will provide scientific advice and input on future research priorities and projects as well as those projects that are already underway. This will include drawing out critical insights and how these might inform the committee’s deliberations, the development of the bioregional assessments, and future research as well as communicating the results of the research.
