A fantastic opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced person to lead our Land Use & Environmental Planning portfolio to effectively manage the teams responsible for Urban Planning, Environmental Strategy and Mapping/Land Information Services
The role focusses on strategic land use planning and environmental policy. The successful applicant will be required to lead teams to effectively prepare and manage Council’s land use and environmental plans and policies in a dynamic policy environment. This will occur in a consultative and collaborative manner that addresses emerging urban issues and changing Government policy and initiatives.
Reporting to our Director City Planning, you will be an energetic self-starter with a track record of achievement and initiative and possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and will be responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the Land Use & Environmental Planning Unit by providing leadership, motivation, innovation and by leading the performance management process.

Essential Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications (University Degree) in Town Planning, Environmental Science or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in leadership skills including the motivation of staff, innovation, performance management and communication skills
- Extensive knowledge of planning and environmental legislation and experience in related policy development
- Demonstrated expertise in responding effectively to changing policy directions in planning
- Demonstrated skills in developing, implementing and monitoring a financial budget
- Ability to think analytically and to problem solve
- Strong and demonstrated customer service focus
- High level computer skills
- Current NSW Driver Licence
- Understanding of GIS Systems
