Associate Professor in Human Geography
with responsibility for the Development Studies programme
Description
A permanent position as an Associate Professor (SKO 1011) of Human Geography is available in the Department of Sociology and Human Geography.
Qualifications
Candidates must have research and teaching skills related to development issues in the South.
The position requires a doctoral degree or equivalent in Human Geography. In the evaluation of candidates for the position, emphasis will be placed on research and international publications in recent years; competencies in theory and method are particularly important. The successful candidate must be able to contribute to the long-term development of the core areas and research community in the department. The department's overall needs will be part of the considerations made in the hiring process.
The successful candidate will have sole responsibility for the interdisciplinary bachelor's programme in Development Studies as the Head of the programme.
Pursuant to current regulations, the applicants will be evaluated based on their documented academic qualifications, pedagogical qualifications and qualifications in management and administration.
In the ranking of qualified applicants, the entire breadth of qualifications will be included in the evaluation. The qualifications that are central in the announcement will carry particular weight; cf. the Rules for appointing Professors and Associate Professors.
The successful candidate must be able to teach subjects other than development issues in the South and must also be able to teach Human Geography theories/methods at all levels.
The successful candidate will be required to do research and to teach, advise and contribute to examinations at all levels of the programmes of study. The position also involves administrative and other duties in accordance with applicable rules. Applicants who do not have basic pedagogical competencies must acquire such competencies within the first two years of being hired. The languages of instruction are Norwegian and English. The successful candidate must speak and write Norwegian (or a Scandinavian language), as s/he will be the academic and administrative Head of a Norwegian-medium programme of study.
