The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a leading global charity for research, teaching and information on international development, based in Brighton.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in ensuring the smooth running of the Director’s Office, working to make a difference in development. Providing efficient and accurate administration support to the Director and Fundraising Manager will require a highly motivated and organised administrator.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience working as a PA at Director level. You will have with excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with well-developed tact and diplomacy. You will need to be able to work flexibly and autonomously as well as being a good team worker.  We are looking for someone with excellent planning and organisational skills and varied administrative experience including proactive diary management, complex travel arrangements, dealing professionally with external contacts and visitors as well as discretely handling confidential and sensitive information. We expect the postholder to have high level ability to use standard MS and other IT packages effectively and competently and skills in information gathering and web searching.
The Assistant will contribute to the effective performance of the Director and Fundraising Manager by supporting their administrative and information needs. They will work closely with those responsible for the management of the Board and Strategic management activities. The appointment necessitates a good degree of autonomy and initiative, the need to make decisions on a daily basis within the agreed standards and framework, and a mature and professional manner at all times as well as exceptional attention to detail.
This is a part-time role (28 hours). In order to ensure maximum coverage in partnership with the Assistant to the Company Secretary, we will be looking for someone who can ideally work the hours across the week.

Salary: Initial appointment will be between £23,823 - £28,910 pro rata, (depending on experience), in the IDS Grade 5 range.
