Risk Manager EPO

The Reserve Funds for Pensions and Social Security (RFPSS) are a special class of asset which lend support to the EPO's pension and social security schemes by providing the appropriate reserves. Currently, there are assets of several bn EUR under management with a growing tendancy. The assets, which are invested in a broad range of asset classes (domestic government bonds, domestic inflation-linked bonds, domestic corporate bonds, foreign bonds, domestic equity, foreign equity, emerging market equity, real estate, commodities and cash), are managed internally, both by means of direct investment and by using third-party investment vehicles. 

RFPSS Administration, led by the Fund Administrator, is composed of 18 staff members working together in a number of operational units, namely portfolio management, investment analytics and risk and process management, accounting and internal control, and administration and operations. 

The EPO is looking for an individual with strong experience in risk management. The person will be responsible for advising the Fund Administrator on any potential risks to the profitability or substance of the Funds and for ensuring that Fund Administration maintains adequate investment management and operational risk procedures.

Main duties

  • Advise the Fund Administrator in areas of risk;
  • Assist the managerial teams with identifying and steering risks;
  • Identify operational risks;
  • Identify and quantify risk factors affecting the investment activity of the Funds;
  • Contribute to the maintenance and update of the market risk management process and associated reporting;
  • Support the front office in risk management issues, including the analysis and use of new products;
  • Support the Fund Administrator in the analysis of new strategies and asset classes;
  • Proactively monitor and recommend changes to realisable risk limits.

The ideal candidate will have

  • strong professional experience in risk management; preference will be given to candidates with risk management qualifications (IRM, PRMIA, or GARP) and buy-side experience, in particular with derivative products and hedging strategies;
  • preferably, work experience in large public or private organisations;
  • hands-on technical experience and analytical skills;
  • proven hands-on experience with industry standard risk management systems, software development tools, Microsoft Office and other technical tools;
  • the ability to understand broad business issues;
  • strong quantitative skills;
  • the ability to cope under pressure;
  • planning and organisation skills;
  • good teamwork and communication skills.

Minimum qualifications

Diploma of completed studies at university level or - in exceptional cases - equivalent professional experience. Excellent knowledge of one official language and ability to understand the other two.
