POSITION SUMMARY
Position Objective:
To create and maintain the legal framework related to a wide range of activities of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).
Key Accountabilities:
- Create and maintain the legal framework for the activities of ESM (drafting, advisory support, conclusion of contracts and completion of all related legal formalities) and monitor the same from a legal point of view;
- Advise on corporate, contract, procurement and labour law with regard to various jurisdictions as well as EU law and public international law;
- Advise on EU law (in particular: institutional law) and general public international law (in particular the law of international institutions);
- Participate in the decision-making processes on a wide range of issues related to the organisation’s activities, in particular institutional issues, and litigation;
- Participation in the preparation of meetings of governing bodies of ESM in particular the Board of Directors and the Board of Governors;
- Supervise the work of external service providers, such as international law firms, and other third parties;
- Support the legal team in managing all legal aspects of ESM;
- Conduct research, develop legal studies and keep being informed on legal matters and important trends which have an impact on the operations of ESM;
- Report on trends and developments of the regulatory environment;
- Complete the administrative tasks related to the above responsibilities.
Main interactions with other functions/external entities:
- Frequent interaction with external lawyers from leading international law firms.

- Very good skills and substantial experience in drafting and reviewing legal documentation;
- Thorough understanding of the operational environment of an international financial institution.

FORMAL QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in law. A specialised master's degree (LL.M) would be an asset as would be a specialisation in EU law and public international law;
- More than 5 years of relevant experience;
- A good understanding of macroeconomics and finance;
- Fluent (spoken and written) in English and either French or German;
- Any other language skills are considered an asset.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Years of experience required for the position: 5+ years.
