Postdoctoral Research Assistant - Spiny Solanum Phylogenetics and Taxonomy

The Natural History Museum

Salary: £28,302
Contract: 36 month Fixed Term Contract
Closing date: 25 April 2013
The Natural History Museum is one of the world’s leading museums, internationally recognised for its dual role as a centre of excellence in scientific research and as a leader in the presentation of natural history through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and the web.
We are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to undertake research in flowering plant family Solanaceae (the nightshades). Your primary focus will be on the taxonomy and phylogenetics of key groups of spiny solanums (Solanum subgenus Leptostemonum), particularly in the Old World tropics outside Africa, but also in the New World Tropics. You will prepare the results of your research for publication and present these at national and international meetings and conferences.
The successful candidate will have the desire to integrate molecular and morphological research in taxonomy in novel ways and to improve the collections to Solananceae held at the Museum through research and collecting.
You will need a PhD in Biology or related subject, or equivalent relevant experience.
