Communications Coordinator
- Long-term twelve (12) month contract with possible extension
- Based in Port Moresby
The PNG Department of Environment and Conservation is mandated to ensure that PNG’s environment is managed in an environmentally sustainable manner, in particular to implement the Government’s Environmentally Sustainable Economic Growth Policy agenda. The ESEG initiative aims to strengthen the use of economic instruments and strategies assisting industry and people to manage their environment sustainably whilst maintaining economic growth.
DEC is the PNG agency responsible for leading the implementation of the Kokoda Initiative in partnership with the Australian Government as outlined in the Second Joint Understanding 2010 – 2015 signed by both governments. Through this initiative DEC is seeking to link protection of key areas of the Owen Stanley Ranges, Brown River Catchment and Kokoda Track region that have significant heritage or environmental values to long-term economic benefits for local communities. DEC works closely with a range of key delivery partners in both PNG and Australia including the Kokoda Track Authority, Kokoda Development Program, Tourism Promotion Authority, Provincial Governments and the Australian Government Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.
The DEC is seeking applications for the role of Communications Coordinator for the Kokoda Initiative (KI).
The Communications Coordinator will manage a range of communications needs and products across the KI and liaise closely with officers from the other KI agencies including in Canberra.
As the Communications Coordinator you will fulfil a number of objectives addressing day to day communications needs for the KI and its programs and longer term strategic planning and implementation of the KI Stakeholder Engagement Strategy. You will also provide capacity building and mentoring to other communications officers in KI partner agencies.
