Executive Director, Holodomor Research and Education Consortium

This is a part-time position, working 23 hours per week, and is based in Toronto, Ontario.
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall management of the Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (HREC) in pursuit of the aims of HREC to research and promote knowledge of the Holodomor. The ED will coordinate between the directors of its research and education programs; the Executive Committee (comprised of CIUS unit directors based at the University of Alberta); and the Advisory Committee.  The ED will provide coordination and support for website development, the organization of conferences, symposia, and other public events.  HREC is administered under the auspices of the Peter Jacyk Centre for Ukrainian Historical Research of Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS), and will be under the supervision of its director.
Responsibilities inlclude:
  • Providing oral and written reports, as required, to HREC’s Executive Committee, comprised of the director of the Peter Jacyk Centre for Ukrainian Historical Research, CIUS director, the director of the Kowalsky Program for the Study of Eastern Ukraine, the director of the Stasiuk Program for the Study of Contemporary Ukraine, and the director of the Ukrainian Language Education Centre;
  • Development of work plans and budgets for the Research and Education components of HREC, in consultation with the Research and Education components, the Executive Committee and the Advisory Board;
  • ­Coordinating activities of Canadian and Ukrainian researchers;
  • ­Promoting results of research and education components through academic forums and to the broadest possible audiences;
  • Developing and managing contacts with media;
  • Pursuing and developing cooperation with other institutions (institutions devoted to the study of genocide, libraries, museums, school boards, etc.);
  • ­Writing summaries of research results for publications, seminars, conferences and related settings;
  • ­Organizing and supervising translation of key archival and other documents; 
  • ­Editing articles for web and journal publication;
  • ­Overseeing production of a series of short publications (FAQ series) for teachers, students and community use;
  • ­Directing preparation of grant applications and proposals.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Post-Graduate degree in related discipline
  • ­10 years of postgraduate experience
  • ­Ability to work in a team environment
  • ­Knowledge of the Ukrainian language is essential
  • ­Professional experience in editing general and academic texts (highly desirable)
  • ­Experience writing, compiling and editing reports and proposals
  • ­Demonstrated experience and understanding of various organizational types and sectors
  • ­Experience in program management, academia, and public relations
  • ­Working knowledge of university processes and procedures an asset
  • ­Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, problem-solving abilities and results orientation
  • ­Proven project management skills
  • ­Creativity in meeting program needs
  • ­Organized, enthusiastic, innovative and able to deal with ambiguity and tight deadlines while working effectively in a team environment
  • ­Proven ability to influence

In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff agreement, this part-time position has an appointment of one year with the possibility of extension and offers annual salary range of $27, 672 - $38, 053, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
