Internship: UN Human Rights Committee Monitoring, 107th Session

The Centre for Civil and Political Rights aims to promote, facilitate and develop NGO engagement with the UN Human Rights Committee. The Human Rights Committee is the UN body in charge of monitoring the implementation of the rights protected by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), ratified by 167 States.
Two internship positions are currently available on CCPR’s monitoring team, which will work both before, during and after the 107th session of the UN Human Rights Committee, in conjunction with Committee members and NGOs. The duration of the internship is 6 months starting on February 1st, 2013.
The intern will conduct a variety of tasks related to the Human Rights Committee session, including conducting pre-session research on countries up for review, organizing with NGO’s who will travel to represent their respective countries, and liaising with Committee members. One of the primary objectives of CCPR’s mission is to facilitate the interaction between NGO’s and the Committee, both in the form of aiding NGOs in the reporting process leading up to the session, and through formal and informal in-person meetings during the session. The intern will be an integral part of this mission. The intern will also be charged with managing the dissemination of information throughout the session, via various social media channels. These include conducting live webcasts of each review, follow up interviews with Committee members and NGOs, managing all Twitter and Facebook updates/accounts, and writing press releases covering the content of each review.
Qualifications:
• Work will be conducted in English. French and Spanish also desirable.
• Legal background.
• Mid-level computer skills necessary.
• The intern should be self-motivated, organized, patient, and flexible.
NOTE: This position requires a valid Swiss or EU work permit. Please also note that this position is unpaid -- the Centre is not in a position to remunerate the internship
