PhD Fellowship within Criminology and Sociology of Law
A position as PhD Research Fellow is available at the Faculty of Law, Department of Criminology and Sociology. The Faculty of Law is the leading educational research institution in criminology and sociology of law in Norway.
The Fellowships are for a period of up to 4 years, with teaching constituting 25% of the workload. Alternatively they are for 3 years without any teaching duties. A 4 year Fellowship requires the candidate to meet current  teaching needs at the Faculty. The Fellowship period may be reduced within the framework of pertaining regulations based on previously held research fellowship positions.
Applicants are asked to write a PhD project description of 5-10 pages outlining the research issues, as well as the choice of scientific theory and method. The candidate is expected to complete the project within the fellowship period as determined.
Applicants are also asked to set out how their research issues relates to the department's priorities.
The person appointed will automatically be admitted to the faculty's  approved PhD programme. The purpose of the Fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The successful candidate is expected to join the existing research network and contribute to it's development.
 Requirements
  • The PhD candidate must hold a Norwegian cand.polit. degree/a master degree in criminology and sociology of law or an equivalent degree.
  • The candidates grades, the project proposal, and the applicant's personal qualifications will be taken into consideration in the evaluation of the applications. Applicants may be called for an interview.

  • Application letter
  • Detailed project description (5-10 pages)
  • CV (summarising education, positions and academic work)
  • Certified copies of certificates, diplomas and letters of recommendation. Foreign diplomas must be provided in the original language as well as in an English or Scandinavian translation.
  • Up to 3 scholarly publications that the applicant wishes to be considered by the evaluation committee. If the publications are written by more than one author, a declaration of authorship and of the contribution of the applicant should be submitted.
Foreign applicants are advised to attach an explanation of their University grading system. Please remember that all documents should be in an English or Scandinavian translation.
