Director, Examination Board

AKU-EB was established in 2003 and is a Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education established by Aga Khan University in response to a demand from schools for more appropriate school examinations. AKU-EB’s primary objective is to improve the quality of education by making examinations of a reputable standard more accessible to Pakistani students and having them increasingly valued by leading higher education institutions in and outside the country.
Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of ​Director, Examination Board.
Responsibilities
​The Director will be responsible for ensuring that an appropriate infrastructure is in place for the continuing expansion of the Examination Board (EB), and will manage the human, physical, and financial resources required.

The activities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
  • Facilitate the functioning of the Board of Directors of the EB and strengthen the input of stakeholders through a consultative committee and a more formal arrangement of subject panels.
  • Maximise the effectiveness of the team of senior technical and administrative staff of AKU-EB through in-service professional development, visiting “Time and Knowledge” volunteers, and short term consultancy inputs. Identify, select and mentor competent professionals for senior roles within AKU-EB.
  • Arrange for the derivation of worthwhile educational attainment targets for the secondary school and higher secondary school certificates from the national curricula in liaison with national subject teachers associations or from emerging best practice in Pakistan and overseas.
  • Take personal responsibility for setting and maintaining AKU-EB’s awarding standards and work to promote national standards at Grades X and XII.
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of all aspects of the examining processes conducted by AKU-EB.
  • Promote the study of, and empirical research into, educational assessment in Pakistan by all means including, but not limited to, contributing to post-graduate degree courses in AKU’s Institute of Educational Development. 
  • Develop new and existing opportunities to deploy the expertise of the EB on an agency basis for the betterment of education in Pakistan and for EB’s own financial sustainability. 
  • Play an active role in acquiring external funds required for financial sustainability of the EB. 
  • Represent the EB in national forums, especially meetings of the Committee of Chairmen of the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Pakistan, and maintain its status as a leader in the field of public examining. 
  • Understand and be responsive to clients’ concerns and needs.
  • Assist the AKU on its multiple campuses to deploy up-to-date methods in its assessment of students at entry and exit, and in particular monitor the English language competence of all students, staff, and faculty across the university. 
  • Support the development of e-learning solutions to reach out to less advantaged schools and students.
Requirements
​Candidates should have a doctoral degree in Education, Psychology or Sociology with an emphasis on using large scale educational assessment, research and evaluation to promote advances in teaching and learning. Qualified individuals will be self-starters with the ability to design and manage multiple research and evaluation initiatives, summarize complex statistical information, work with sensitive data, pay attention to detail and exhibit integrity, discretion and grace under pressure. Insider knowledge of public examination practice will be an advantage as will experience of working in developing countries and appreciation of the socio-cultural dynamics of Pakistan society as they relate to education.
