Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in agricultural production, agricultural science, water resources management, international development, business management, or a related field required
- Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience managing and implementing large donor-funded agricultural or counter-narcotic programs, particularly in transitional, Islamic, or post-conflict countries
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible supervisory experience, including direct supervision of a diverse team of professional and support staff
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to motivate staff to be accountable for program outcomes
- Experience mentoring and building capacity of national staff
- Experience with host-government and private-sector partners in planning, implementing, and evaluating agricultural development activities at the national and sub-national levels
- Expertise in agricultural production, agricultural extension, agribusiness, value chain development activities, dry land and irrigated agriculture, water resources management in agriculture, or agronomy
- Experience as a team leader or technical lead for projects with similar complexity in Afghanistan or other conflict or post-conflict countries
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Willingness to live and work in Afghanistan
- Fluency in English required; proficiency in Dari or Pashto preferred
