Senior Business Development Manager Washington, DC

Crown Agents USA, Inc. (CA-USA) is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager for the Business Development department in our Washington, DC office.

Role & Responsibilities
The Senior Business Development Manager reports to the Director of Business Development and is responsible for winning new business in line with Crown Agent's long-term corporate strategy. The Senior Business Development Manager will assume ownership of the business development process, from opportunity identification to bid management to bid submission, keeping the Director of Business Development closely apprised throughout the bid process.
As a vital member of the business development team, this role requires fostering strong working relationships with technical experts, project managers, potential partners, and business development staff located at Crown Agents USA and also Crown Agents' international offices. In addition to carrying out bid management responsibilities, the Senior Business Development Manager will serve other Crown Agent business groups and overseas offices in providing technical assistance and inputs.
The ability to bring together diverse resources to produce a winning proposal is an essential component of the position. Health and economic development sector expertise is desired in the successful candidate.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide senior level business development support in the identification of new business opportunities, bid management, and technical inputs;
  • Promote the services and capabilities of Crown Agents USA (CA-USA) to existing and prospective clients, potential partners, prospective key personnel, and donor organisations;
  • Improve the company's win rate across multiple sectors;
  • Build a network of professional business contacts in the international development community;
  • In conjunction with the Director of Business Development, identify and pursue new business opportunities with key clients in priority sectors;
  • Provide strategic planning for the future development, growth, and expansion of CA-USA's portfolio of programmes;
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of anticipated programme initiatives and win themes;
  • Form strategic alliances with potential bid partners and sub-contractors;
  • Design and implement capture strategies on priority bids;
  • Analyse Request for Proposals (RFP) and other bid documents;
  • Organise and carry out strategic planning sessions to determine programmatic area(s) of strength, required responses, and technical strategy;
  • Lead bid teams in developing technical content, selecting personnel, incorporating corporate capability statements, monitoring the proposal process, and coordinating bid related activities with partners and sub-partners;
  • Successfully negotiate partnership agreements and budgets;
  • Network closely with technical experts and project managers to ensure that corporate best practices are utilised towards meeting the needs of the client;
  • Coordinate proposal peer reviews prior to submission to client; upon bid submission carry out reviews to identify lessons learned;
  • Under the direction of the Director of Business Development, supervise, mentor, and train business development staff as required;
  • Provide short term technical assistance support as required for existing and anticipated programmes;
  • Work closely with overseas counterparts to provide technical inputs on an as needed basis;
  • Build the capacity of business development, programme, and field staff in undertaking best proposal production practices;
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in International Development, Business Administration, or a related field required
  • Master's Degree in International Development, Business Administration, or a related field desired
  • Above average communication skills including advanced written and spoken proficiency in English; Knowledge of a second language preferred
  • In depth experience collaborating with overseas contacts to provide senior bid management and technical support; demonstrated ability to build relationships with international partners, key stakeholders, and internal and external staff
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 30% for up to several weeks duration at a time
  • Legal ability to work in the United States is required
  • Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in business development or program management in the field of international development required
  • Experience working in a developing country context strongly desired
  • Significant related work experience in business development, bid management and/or proposal development
  • Former experience providing short- term technical assistance and inputs for existing and anticipated projects
  • Experience or knowledge of donor related policies and procedures highly desirable
  • Demonstrated work history of successfully sustaining interpersonal and professional relationships with internal colleagues, partners, sub-contractors, and donor organisations
  • Must demonstrate personal attributes such as loyalty and integrity in addition to being collaborative and inclusive
