Position Summary
The External Relations Associate will provide support across the range of external relations functions, including private fundraising, events planning, and Congressional outreach. This position reports to the Executive Vice President.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, or related field
- Minimum six months related experience or combination of education, training, and experience
- Strong knowledge of democracy and human rights issues preferred
- Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to organize events, meetings and coordinate travel logistics
- Ability to apply accurate and strong database and records management skills
- Ability to apply superb attention to detail and consistently produce timely and error free work
- Ability to accept and complete administrative tasks with a positive and proactive attitude
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and meet all goals and deadlines
- Strong ability to plan, organize, prioritize work, and multi task to meet tight deadlines
- Mastery of MS Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles preferred
- Ability to collaborate with others and successfully work as an effective team member
- Strong ability to apply interpersonal skills, and successfully work in a diverse and multicultural environment
- Ability to interact comfortably with Freedom House staff as well as representatives and delegations from outside the organization
- Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times
- Experience working for or with Congress strongly preferred
- Experience working, studying, living, or traveling abroad preferred
- Manage schedules and arrange meetings and events for external relations functions
- Organize public events and private functions for major donors
- Make travel arrangements and organize logistics for international staff visits and meetings
- Track expenditures and prepare expense reports and payment requests on Freedom House activities
- Assist with research on foundations and other potential donors
- Track developments in Congress related to democracy and human rights
- Provide research assistance on democracy and human rights issues
- Assist with editing and writing briefings, reports, and press releases
- Provide general office support and a variety of related tasks to other work teams as directed
- Ensure all work products meet standards, policies, and mission of Freedom House
