The
Conflict, Humanitarian and Security Operations Team, contracted by
Crown Agents but working within and alongside the Department for
International Development (DFID) is an established and highly respected
team supporting the UK Government in Global Humanitarian Disaster
Resilience, Preparedness and Response. We are about to begin a new
contract which will offer a number of new and exciting opportunities.
Our team will grow as a result.Due to a period of exciting growth, we are now looking for a number of specialists advisers to support the delivery of DFID's commitment to building the resilience of the countries in which DFID works. This means integrating resilience and disaster risk reduction into disaster response efforts, work on climate change and improving the coherence of linkages between development and humanitarian responses in fragile and conflict-affected situations. Two Disaster Resilience Advisers will be instrumental in taking this forward as part of a CHASE Humanitarian & Resilience Policy Team.
Roles and responsibilities include:
- Providing advice and support to DFID country and regional offices and national partners to integrate disaster resilience across humanitarian and development thinking, planning and programmes.
- Providing analysis, and identification of lessons learned, best practice and innovation, to enhance and update DFID guidance and advice on disaster resilience.
- Supporting the development of networks, partnerships and alliance with key and prioritised international, regional, national and UK partners to contribute to a better and shared understanding of resilience.
- Supporting the development of a database of disaster resilience experts.
- Providing advice to Humanitarian Advisors on resilience programming in emergencies as appropriate.
- Educated to Masters level or the equivalent level of academic and professional experience in a subject area clearly related to humanitarian work.
- Extensive practical field experience of managing programmes related to disaster resilience in developing countries and/or in fragile and conflict affected environments.
- Demonstrable experience in humanitarian and development programming, and ability to think across both.
- Proven expertise in the design, implementation, monitoring and advising of effective strategy.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of humanitarian theory, practice and architecture, humanitarian risk assessment and planning and managing humanitarian responses.
- Demonstrable knowledge and expertise in disaster resilience theory, practice and architecture.
- Willingness to deploy in support of DFID's work in a humanitarian emergency.
