Research Associate in Space Microtechnology for NASA's InSIght Mission to Mars

Salary between £32,100 and £40,720 per annum

Imperial College London has been world leading in producing micromachined seismometers with unprecedented resolution. We now have an opportunity to apply this technology on the 2016 InSight mission to Mars, currently under final review at NASA.
A research position is available to participate in the building of the seismic system for InSight. Work will consist of design, fabrication and testing of the silicon microseismometers that will be delivered to Mars in 2016. Work will involve collaboration and travel to our UK partner, Oxford University, as well as to our international partners at the French Space Agency (CNES) in Toulouse and at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
Applicants should have microfabrication experience and a PhD (or equivalent) in an area relevant to microelectronics, either in engineering or a related physical science.
It is essential that you possess excellent silicon microfabrication skills along with demonstrated ability for innovation and original research, good organisational and multi-tasking abilities, and knowledge of safe working practices in laboratories.
