SENIOR DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT, FOUNDATIONS

CARE USA is now seeking an experience Senior Director of Development. The Senior Director of Development (SDOD) will be a senior member of the Foundations team - developing and maintaining CARE’s relationships with a portfolio of professional foundations, including serving as primary relationship manager for a number of medium and large-size donors and prospects for the Health Equity team. The health portfolio is currently among the larger portfolios in the Foundations team and also one poised for exponential growth. Thus this position would require a person capable of leading growth for a large INGO in a significant sector within the next couple of years negotiating complex relationships within and outside the organization.
The SDOD will take the lead, in partnership with senior Program and Country Office staff, in identifying new funding opportunities and developing concepts and proposals for foundation donors around key priorities as identified by the Health Equity teams and Country office long-range strategic plans. The SDOD’s portfolio will also include advocacy around the health agenda and at times, certain stand-alone grants.
She/he will also work with a Grants Management team, who are responsible for regular monitoring of implementation and spending, as well as reporting to donors, to ensure proper stewardship of the existing portfolio of active grants. These efforts will contribute directly to the annual Foundations Unit target. Periodically, the SDOD will represent the Unit internally and externally. A critical component of the SDOD's job will be to play a leadership role in developing and implementing the fundraising strategy of CARE's Sexual, reproductive and maternal health (SRMH) theme team.
We are looking for a person with experience in the health arena (implementing or overseeing health programs, or advocacy/policy experience, especially in the sexual, reproductive and maternal health areas) and negotiating complex partnerships in an international development context, with some interest in fundraising rather than a fundraiser interested in expanding their knowledge of international development /global health.

Required Skills:
•Undergraduate degree;
•7-10 years of experience in any combination of foundation fundraising, project design/management;
proposal writing; policy advocacy; program advisory or field work, in the public health arena, preferably with some experience in sexual, reproductive and maternal health;
•Experience in managing and designing health sector programs in a developing country context;
•Experience in fundraising and relationship management of foundation donors;
•Evidence of strong analytic skills;
•Computer literacy, including facility with Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications;
•Project design/proposal writing for foundations or comparable donors;
•Advanced editing skills;
•Experience successfully reporting and working in a matrix environment with large teams;
•Capacity to facilitate internal decisions across multiple stakeholders as required to produce content for proposals;
•Excellent oral and written communications skills;
•Stong interpersonal and relationship-building skills;
•Ability to adapt to a rapidly-changing environment.
Desired Skills:
•Advanced degree in a relevant field of study, including both broader (Development Studies, Pubilic and International Affairs, etc.) or more specialized (Public Health, Agriculture, Environmental Studies, etc.) degree programs;
•10-12 years or more of experience in some combination of fundraising, writing/project design and field work related to international development, including health;
•Programmatic experience in the sexual, reproductive and maternal heath;
•Managing/working with remote teams;
•Experience working with budgets;
•Willingness to travel 20-30%.
