The role
Reporting to the Manager Geotechnical Engineering, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer will work as part of a team delivering open cut feasibility studies and operational projects on time and on budget, while meeting Coffey’s exacting quality standards.
The team prides itself in the use of practical, innovative techniques and technologies to solve client mining problems. To this end, the Senior Engineer will work with experienced professionals with a wide amount of experience both in Australia and overseas.
The team aims to develop the practice of geotechnical engineering as applied to mining projects and specifically underground management. This will be achieved by ongoing personal and team career development, participation in industry forums and seminars etc. and promotion of technology transfer within Coffey.
The key accountabilities of the role are:
- Management of underground operational issues and risk management strategies
- Develop systems for the recording and tracking geotechnical inspections and identifying key areas of geotechnical concern
- Management of medium scale / complexity projects with no supervision
The person
To be considered for this position, you must hold an accredited degree in Engineering (Civil) or Bachelor of Science (Engineering Geology / Mining Engineering / Geology) or post graduate equivalents. You will demonstrate strong technical knowledge gained through a minimum of 7 years employment in the sector. You will have an excellent understanding of rock and soil mechanics. Your experience will include the management of studies and operational projects in relation to underground mine geotechnics. You experience may have come from direct employment in the mining sector, or through related industries or consultancies.
You will display outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills as well as a motivated and goal-oriented approach. An excellent level of ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships utilising your high level communication skills are further key requirements.
A willingness to work in the field and a strong drive to deliver effective solutions to client problems will be a further key to your success.
