The role
Reporting to the Principal Mining Geotechnical Engineer, the Senior Mining Geotechnical Engineer will work as part of a team delivering geotechnical solutions for underground and open cut mines in both metals and coal on time and on budget, while meeting Coffey’s exacting quality standards.
The team aims to develop the practice of geotechnical engineering as applied to mining projects. This will be achieved by ongoing personal and team career development, participation in industry forums and seminars etc and promotion of technology transfer within Coffey.
Key responsibilities include:
- Involvement in the engineering processes supporting geotechnical analysis and solutions for underground and surface;
- Conduct geotechnical Investigations for various mine infrastructure projects including plant sites, underground openings, shafts and portals;
- Technical management of consulting projects;
- Working on mining projects mostly on the eastern seaboard of Australia with exposure to projects elsewhere in Australia, as well as overseas;
- Client liaison and job management
The person
You will have as a minimum a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or Bachelor of Science (Engineering Geology) and preferably a member of IEAust. You must have experience in general geotechnical engineering practices and geotechnical investigations. Throughout your career, you will have gained an excellent understanding of rock and soil mechanics and have been exposed to various aspects of open pit geotechnical management. Strong software skills with relevant programs will also be highly regarded.
An experienced professional with strong written and verbal communication skills, you will have strong interpretative, analytical and project management skills.
