ECTA, the association representing over 100 pro-competitive telecommunications providers across the EU, is seeking a dynamic individual to play a vital role within its small team based in Brussels. The successful candidate will drive ECTA's relations with the European Parliament and potentially other EU institutions and develop and execute ECTA's wider communications and PR strategy, with a focus on promoting competition in the telecoms sector. There may also be an opportunity to lead policy for the association on various regulatory issues (for example privacy and content online issues, data protection and IPR enforcement). We are looking for a candidate who has:
- First class written and verbal communications skills in English, and preferably proficiency in French. Other languages would be an asset;
- Extensive knowledge of the European institutions, profound knowledge of the EU legislative process and preferably established contacts in the relevant EU and/or national institutions;
- A clear understanding of and interest in competition policy and wider regulations applying to the electronic communications sector;
- Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills and the ability to build relations with policy-makers as well as ECTA’s wide member-base of telecoms operators;
- The ability to critically analyze complex regulatory information and to summarize it in simple language;
- The ability to develop/coordinate policy positions and to build consensus;
- The ability to organise their own agenda and manage projects independently as well as being an effective team player;
- A university degree, for instance in communication, political science, economics or law;
- At least 3 years relevant experience, working for the European institutions, a National Regulatory Authority, relevant Ministry or alternatively for industry, legal or consulting groups.
