Community Accountability for Maternal and Child Health in Zimbabwe

We are looking for an outstanding and experienced Team Leader for a potential DFID-funded Programme on Community Accountability for Maternal and Child Health in Zimbabwe. Working closely with and managing a core staff of technical and administrative programme experts, s/he will ensure that project objectives, outcomes, and deliverables are met and that financial, operational, and reporting requirements of the donor are adhered to. This is a full-time position for 3 years based in Zimbabwe, contingent upon a successful award.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides overall leadership and representation of the project, and builds a senior management team able to convey the overall purpose, activities, and achievements of the project.
  • Manages overall strategic, programmatic, financial, and management responsibility for the project.
  • Works closely with and manage a core staff of technical and administrative programme professionals, as well as to effectively leverage global technical inputs and expertise from across consortium organisations.
  • Ensures that project objectives, outcomes, and milestones are met and that financial, operational, and reporting requirements of the donor are followed.
  • Act as the primary liaison with the client as well as with other donors, partners, and stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare in Zimbabwe/government of Zimbabwe.

Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in public health or a relevant field.
  • 8-10 years of experience in leading large national/regional or international programmes in Zimbabwe or the region.
  • At least 10 years’ experience leading or in a senior management position on international health programmes for key health development partners, including, but not limited to, DFID, USAID, AusAID and the European Union.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the concept of ‘value for money,’ or how to maximise the investment-to-impact ratio in health decision-making.
  • Experience of working with communities and civil society organisations in Zimbabwe or in the region.
  • Has knowledge in reproductive health, maternal newborn and child health, in Zimbabwe.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in management, institutional capacity building, high-level strategic visioning and leadership.
  • Familiarity with the political, social, economic and cultural context of Zimbabwe is strongly preferred.
  • Has deep understanding and knowledge of community accountability, demand creation, voice and accountability, and policy and advocacy.
  • Has excellent strategic, analytical, contracts, people and project management skills;
  • Has a strong results orientation and commitment to accountability.
  • Demonstrate strong personal qualities, including integrity, commitment to excellence, equality, openness, inclusiveness and collegiality.
  • Excellent written and spoken English is a must.
  • Local nationals are encouraged to apply
