AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents. AGA employs over 62,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager. Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%. The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.
Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project). Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.
We are now seeking a number of Mine Planning and QA/QC Technicians to join the Mining Department at the Tropicana Gold Mine.
Accountable to the Production Engineer, these roles provide support to the mine planning department to measure performance, analyse and improve operations in accordance to planning principals.
The roles are responsible for data collection, monitoring, and management, auditing and review of activities in the active mining area.
The roles offer a good combination of outdoor field work and technical knowledge based work. Experience and aptitude in these roles provide an excellent opportunity to progress into other areas of mining, including the technical mining systems and mine planning. A number of positions are available, applicants with limited mining experience but with qualifications in other disciplines are encouraged to apply. This role is an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.
The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:
- To support the mine planning team with projects, day to day planning, and quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) aspects of open pit operations. This includes inspection and monitoring of geotechnical, drill, blast, load and haul, dumping and crushing operations.
- Data collection - Photography for Fragmentation analysis
- MMRS data entry, QA/QC, and investigation of data discrepancies
- Assist the mine planning team with end of month reporting for the Mining Department using MMRS and MineStar resources
- Assist the Mining Department with support and development in information systems for data collected
- Review of progress claims, monitoring and audit inputs and outputs
- Monitor day works requests and claims, including record keeping and QA/QC
- Assist the Mine Planning team with application of specialist mining software
- Assist in aspects of coordinating mine planning contractors
- Monitor and maintain mine planning resources and hardware
- Maintain inventory of consumables required for the roles tasks
- Maintain and monitor control charts for variation control
- Regular auditing of contractor QA/QC processes/performance
The ideal candidates will possess:
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Proficient level of computer skills including; Microsoft Office Excel and Word
- Be comfortable with working outdoors in a potentially physically challenging environment
- Certificate IV or higher in a science or engineering related field
- C Class Driver's Licence
- Demonstrated ability to manage their own task management and work priorities and work independently
Candidates held in high regard will possess one or more of the following:
- Previous mining experience
- Experience operating heavy equipment
- Experience working with MineStar or a similar fleet management system
- Competency in MS Access and (or other database systems) and specialist mining software
- Excellent level of computer skills including the following: MS Excel, MS VBA, MS Access, C/C++, SQL and PERL
- Bachelor level engineering, science, or commerce degree
