Field of activity

In September 2008, GIZ established the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. AFI is the first global knowledge-sharing network designed by and for financial sector policymakers and regulators to identify and implement proven and successful policy solutions that have delivered tangible results. AFI supports its members in policy development and implementation by using a peer-to-peer learning approach, facilitating online and face-to-face exchanges, regionally and globally, supported by grants and policy research.

Within three years, AFI attracted a diverse membership base that is now 85 institutions strong. AFI has also cultivated relationships with external partners and developed a voice on the global stage, evidenced most notably by its G20 relationship and input to global standard setting bodies. In 2012 and 2013, AFI will further enhance its services to the members, deepen the network activities, explore ways to further promote innovative policy solutions for financial inclusion, and strengthen its positioning in the global financial inclusion policy arena.

Your tasks

Reporting directly to the AFI Senior Communication Officer, the Production Officer will be responsible for the following:

  • Coordinating editorial, prepress and production processes for all AFI print and online publications, reprints and translations; prepare schedules, monitor budgets, assess time, costs and resources needed for publication projects
  • Copyediting and proofreading other AFI public (non-technical) publications; draft or edit English communications material and other occasional news items, cover and promotional copy, reports, concept papers, proposals, letters, etc. as required
  • Coordinate and assist external contractors in developing layouts and templates for regular AFI publications
  • Coordination of external editors for specialized AFI publications
  • Assisting in the selection and management of external contractors (editorial, translation, design and prepress, printing/CD?production); prepare contracts; assist in guiding, developing and evaluating performance of consultants
  • Coordinating with the AFI communication office to determine and communicate new media production requirements
  • Ensure compliance with AFI publications guidelines and related administrative procedures, prepare, collate and archive publications?related contracts, copyright permission forms; keep updated information records of all AFI publications
  • Monitor reproduction of publications and use of visual identity and logos; ensure design cohesiveness of publications, documents and promotional material; maintain graphics and photograph archives for print and Web reproduction
  • Create and maintain an ongoing AFI publications schedule (Print and Video)
  • Maintain and update the AFI publications style guide

Your profile

The candidate will have a degree in journalism, public information or public affairs, ideally with a concentration on print publications. The candidate will have a minimum of 6 years’ professional experience working in the information production field, with at least 3 years working in an international setting. Professional skills required for this position include the following:

  • Highly developed English editing skills and experience editing finance?related publications, including editing charts, tables and figures. Experience in financial and policy development editing at the international level would be a strong asset
  • Digital and hard copy publishing experience with a well?developed understanding of editorial and prepress processes and print production
  • Demonstrated project management skills, experience scheduling, managing workflows, supervising publishing functions and coordinating workloads of graphic designers, translators and video editors
  • Strong IT skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; experience with prepress software, databases, content management, enterprise software and design applications
  • Exceptional English written and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Good contacts and experience working with local publishers, photographers and video editors in Thailand is a definite advantage
  • Native fluency in English is required. A working knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage
