Mining Business Improvement Coordinator AngloGold Ashanti

AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents. AGA employs over 62,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager. Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%. The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.

Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project). Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.

We are now seeking an experienced Mining Business Improvement Coordinator to join our Mining team at the Tropicana Gold Mine.

Accountable to the Manager: Mining, this role is responsible for reviewing and improving business processes within the mining operations. This will be carried out through the implementation and development of business process improvement methods, monitoring, audits, training and assessments.

The initial focus of the role for the next 18 months is on the development of systems for activities in the mining operations area. The ongoing role will be to continue systems development and alignment, continuous development, overviewing training packages and compliance coordination. The primary business improvement process is aligned with Statistical Process Control concepts. This role is an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.

The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:

· Promote continuous improvement of the Mining team’s business outcomes

· Development and maintenance of business improvement systems for the mining operations with a focus on the Mining Department and primary cross functional relationships

· Liaise with the Contractor for business improvement, maintenance, engineering and HSEQ staff to promote alignment of business systems

· Facilitate connection of Mining Systems to key data customers to enable business improvement systems to be developed

· Maintain mining operation compliance to the AGAA document control standards

· Monitor conformance to operational processes in line with TGM standards

· Maintain and facilitate change management processes for the mining operations in line with TGM sustainability standards

· Communicate business improvement information including safety, financial, production, and the environment to mining operations employees, contractors and associated personnel

· Facilitate and monitor the development of mining operations systems

· Facilitate and monitor incident investigations, risk assessments and the implementation of business improvement projects

· Monitor corrective actions within the mining operations

· Audit, analysis and maintain the training and risk systems for the mining operations

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 2+ years’ experience in a primary industry, preferably open pit mining
  • Project Management experience in medium sized projects (>$500,000) with exposure to business process improvement initiatives
  • Proven experience in training and safety including audits, incident investigations and risk assessments
  • A proficient level of computer skills and knowledge, including intermediate or higher skills in MS Office including MS Project and MS Visio
  • Experience working with contractors and technical professionals
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentations and delivery of training
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills

Candidates with the following will be held in high regards:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) or better
  • Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety or better
  • Tertiary degree in earth sciences, engineering, or commerce
  • Experience and qualifications with ISO9001, OSHAS90001, and ISO140001
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience in open pit or underground mining activities
  • Project management qualifications
  • Experience in business improvement methods including Six Sigma, Lean, or other Deming style methods
  • Experience with startup mining operations
