Provincial manager Afghanistan

Chemonics seeks a provincial manager for a one- to two-year assignment on an ongoing USAID-funded project expanding agribusiness and agriculture finance activities in Southern Afghanistan. The provincial manager, based at an unaccompanied post in Zabul or Helmand, will work in consultation with Afghan business leaders; USAID; the United Nations; other regional platforms, related gender and agricultural programs; and the provincial and district Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock ministries. The anticipated start date for this position is September 2012. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.


Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate five to eight Afghan district coordinators, who will identify farmers and agribusinesses for receiving financial products and technical assistance in order to improve agricultural products for export
  • Develop provincial action plans and ensure the efficient implementation of activities
  • Oversee the implementation of monitoring and evaluation activities based on the expected results in the activity action plan
  • Develop periodic reports and success stories based on work accomplished
  • Identify finance and investment opportunities in the agricultural value chains in Southern Afghanistan

Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree, or a bachelor's degree with five years of relevant work experience required
  • Three years of relevant work experience with USAID required​
  • Experience in agriculture, agribusiness, or financial services preferred
  • Exceptional strength in management and coordination of diverse, geographically disparate teams to achieve measurable results
  • Ability to work successfully in a self-directed manner without daily oversight and supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with a broad range of government officials, international donors, and other key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Experience working in Afghanistan or other conflict countries preferred
  • English fluency required
