WWF International, Hoffmann Post-doctoral Fellow

For our The Luc Hoffmann Institute, located in Gland, Switzerland we are looking for a qualified:


                          Hoffmann Post-doctoral Fellow


The incumbent will support collaborative research programs in three continents (North America, South America, and the Pacific Islands), and build collaborative research and synthesis relationships with cutting edge research centers in Asia, Africa, Europe (including the UK), and North America.

Location/Contract Details:

This is a 2 year position based in Gland, Switzerland.

Main responsibilities:

  • Work in collaboration with the Luc Hoffman Institute Director to manage a series of existing collaborative research projects focused on major drivers and consequences of global environmental change. These include work on climate instability, food security and biodiversity; invasive species and novel ecosystems; and fragmentation and connectivity. It is expected that the post-doctoral fellow will publish peer-reviewed papers associated with these and other projects.
  • Evaluate the potential for collaborative synthesis and research relationships with leading cross-disciplinary applied research institutes in Asia and the South Pacific, Europe and the UK, Africa and other locations
  • Work with the director and other members of the Luc Hoffmann Institute’s team to establish summits, and Collaborative Research Teams (CRTs) around emerging issues coming from the global initiatives.
  • Join the first summit and CRT meetings as a participant, and help establish best practice protocols for managing meeting structures.
  • Use above experiences and global connections to Policy Teams, Global Initiative groups, and other parts of the WWF network, to initiate independent research working with the director.
  • Budget: Funds for salary, travel, and research will be provided by the Luc Hoffmann Institute. Collaborative grant writing for additional research funding for large scale project support is expected to be a part of this position.

What you need:

Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
  • PhD in Natural or Environmental Sciences, Environmental Economics, Social Sciences, or related discipline
  • Strong Quantitative skills (competence in R, Matlab, or other programming language preferred, strength in diverse modelling or statistical approaches preferred)
  • Capacity for extended travel to multiple locations
  • Excellent command of English; other languages an asset
