Process Engineer Intern - Separations Laboratory


The Separations lab supports the marketing, sales and equipment sizing for thickening and filtration equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

This person can expect to conduct, plan and assist with laboratory testing. FLSmidth uses this position and others like it as a pool for promising candidates to become Process Engineers, Research & Development Engineers, etc.

• Provide process support to customers and sales engineers for a variety of liquid/solid separation equipment across several markets including mining, chemical, pulp and paper, power, etc.

• Perform tests to determine and recommend optimum equipment type and size.

• Produce reports from test results

• Present and publish technical papers/articles

• Manage multiple projects in a team environment

• Represent our company competently and professionally in front of clients

• Read and interpret process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, arrangement drawings, and specifications

• For a candidate with minimal experience, laboratory testing will involve field testing that requires approximately 30% travel

• Will be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday, and may have to wear a respirator

• Performs other duties as required

COMPETENCIES/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• Pursuing a BS degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with Mineral Processing Processing

• 0-5 years of experience (liquid/solid separation preferred)

• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

• MS Office software proficiency

Summer - 40
During School - 10 to 15

START DATE: Flexible

COMPENSATION:

Freshman to Senior Status:

$15.00/hr - $17.00/hr

Graduate (holds BS degree; working on advanced degree)

$17.00/hr - $25.00/hr
