Department

Doctors is the week day daily drama shown on BBC ONE and has been the recipient of numerous awards, including three recent British Soap awards. The production is based in the Birmingham Drama Village where other shows including Land Girls are also produced.

With over 350 hours of in-house output a year, BBC Drama Production is making some of the most original, diverse and highly acclaimed television. These range from continuing drama such as Holby City, Casualty, EastEnders and Doctors, to series and serials such as Silent Witness, Luther and Silk to name just a few.

Role

Reporting to and supporting the Series Producer, as the Assistant Script Editor you will provide editorial and continuity support to the team which will include ensuing all episodes are checked for episodic and serial continuity; there is consistent treatment of established characters and that our programmes are editorially compliant. You will generate creative ideas and long term story ideas as well as undertake script reading and writing reports on these. In addition you will help to keep the web pages up to date and provide support to the team as required. You will issue script amendments, and, where necessary, attend Commissioning Meetings.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have experience of script reading and writing script reports, along with a understanding of and the ability to interpret editorial intentions, and to contribute to the generation of ideas and resolution of script challenges. Superb communication skills and the ability to manage a variety of relationships as well as remain calm and focussed under pressure. You will have a passion for television drama and in particular Doctors.

You will have lots of creative production ideas and treatments as well as the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly. This is a busy role, so it’s also important you can demonstrate resilience and flexibility.
